VASSAR GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB (989-823-7221)
Michigan Golf Course Review
Vassar Golf Club in Mid-Michigan just east of Frankenmuth, is a 6400 yard par 72 layout that is one of the best golfing values in the regions. This user friendly design - perfect for
beginners, families, seniors and juniors, is offering blockbuster rates of $50 for 2 players w cart and $88 for a foursome including cart 7 days a week in 2007!
The bent grass greens were in great shape on our mid-July visit, and present only a slight slope, which rewards players who make accurate approach shots. The fronts are
generally open and slightly raised, inviting bump and run shops and pitches. Most fairways are fairly level and tree lined, and usually present ample room for offline tee shots.
The front side plays along a very gently rolling terrain, and the back side plays a little differently with some sloping fairways that play a bit uphill or downhill, and with some
interesting doglegs along the way. Number 10 is one of the course's more interesting holes, with a carry off the tee that need to find a narrow landing zone - not more than 100
yards from the green. A pond is situated in front and to the right.
On property is a clubhouse with small pro shop plus snack area serving hot & cold sandwiches with beer and liquor as well. There is a practice green plus short range for warm
ups - with shots of up to 150 yards allowed. On course yardage markers are positioned at 100, 150 and 200 yards with stakes and blocks, and small markers on the flagsticks
indicate front, middle and back pin locations on the back to front sloping bent grass putting surfaces.
