TWIN BIRCH GOLF CLUB (231-258-9691)
Michigan Golf Course Review
Twin Birch Golf Club in Kalkaska is an 18-hole par 72 layout that offers a relaxing day of golf for all level in 2007 of players. On our early August visit in 2007, despite weeks of
draught, the course was in good condition and the putting surfaces were some of the smoothest we have encountered. This is a user-friendly layout that presents good scoring
opportunities and a chance to establish a high level of confidence.
Other than holes number two and five, the topography on the front nine is quite flat, with level green complexes that have open fronts inviting players to attack the flags. Beginners,
seniors and juniors will appreciate the forgiveness that each hole offers, with ample room to recover from offline approaches.
The back side has a few raised greens, and also presents some doglegs that will challenge the shot making abilities of all levels of golfers. Throughout the layout players will
encounter ample landing zones along pine lined fairways, with understated bunkering and mostly level playing surfaces. The greens are small to medium in size, with little
undulation and gentle slopes.
In total, there are 17 sand bunkers situated mostly greenside, and water hazards in the form of ponds or creeks come into play on 8 holes. There are 3 sets of tees that play to
distances and slopes measuring 6285 yards/125 slope, 6027 yards/122 slope and 4751 yards with a slope of 119 for ladies hitting from the forward sets. As the slope and
yardage indicates - this is a women friendly design as well.
On property is a grass range and practice green, plus a clubhouse with pro shop and restaurant/lounge. The restaurant is a favorite of locals, and is open for lunch and dinner. On
course yardage markers are situated at 100, 150 and 200 yards (with 150 stakes on all par fours and fives) and color coded flags indicate the day's hole locations.
Prices are very reasonable, with rates including cart topping out in the low forties - during prime time. For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
