TIMBERWOOD GOLF CLUB (586) 784-6000
Michigan Golf Course Review
Timberwood in Ray, MI, 45 minutes north of downtown Detroit is a par 72, 6892 yard championship course which opened in 2007 and is designed for the enjoyment of all levels of players.
There are three sets of tees at each tee box which play to distances measuring 6892 yards from the back tees, 6244 yards from the middle, and 4462 yards from the ladies tee.
On this layout there are 40 sand bunkers and water comes into play on 9 holes.
Sprinkler heads on the fairways on all par fours and fives are marked with measurements to the center of the greens. Colored stakes on the rough along the fairways and plates
in the middle of the fairways are also measured from 100, 150, and 200 yards to the center of the greens. On the putting surfaces red, white, and blue flags indicate front, middle,
and back pin placements.
The practice facility includes a grass targeted driving range, a putting green, and a chipping practice green. The clubhouse features a pro shop with necessary items and club
rentals, a snack bar open for lunch, a full bar, and a full dinner menu for golfers finishing their round in the evening, and space for 300 people in the banquet area.
With the exception of a few holes at Timberwood, the water hazards can be fairly easily avoided as well as the bunkers. The topography varies from flat surfaces to mounded hilly
terrain (mostly near the greens). The course has a good mix of wide open landing areas such as on holes 4 through 8, and 12 through 16, and tightly tree lined fairways as on
holes 3, 9, 10, 17 and 18. The large sized greens are varied also as some are flatter while others are sloped at a high degree mostly from back to front.
