PINECROFT GOLF CLUB (231-882-9100)
Michigan Golf Course Review
Champion Hill and Pinecroft Golf Clubs in Beulah are sister courses that provide two distinctive championship layouts, which are amongst the most value oriented golf properties
in Northern Michigan. This family owned enterprise provides locals and visitors with scenic designs with both open for public play, that are built on along an extremely interesting
and rolling topography, To the delight of all players, rates including carts during prime time are kept below the $50 range ($45 in 2010)!
Food service (other than cold sandwiches, snacks and beverages) is not available at either course. Both properties however, do provide grass driving ranges and
putting/chipping greens, along with small but functional pro shops. Both courses have partial cart paths, allowing golfers to drive directly to their ball. Yardage markers are posted
at 100, 150 and 200 yards (250 on par fives) and small flags on the sticks indicate front, middle or back hole locations on the mildly sloping putting surfaces. 150 yards stakes are
also present on the par fours and fives on the Champion Hill course.
The traditional, tree lined Pinecroft course is located just east of Beulah and is situated on 160 acres of scenic terrain with several holes providing wonderful views of Crystal
Lake. The clubhouse deck is a beautiful place to catch the gorgeous sunset over the lake on summer evenings. Rated 4 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play - this is truly one of the
best golf values in Michigan. Champion Hill in contrast, is a highlands links design nestled in the windswept hills at the highest elevation points in Benzie County. It is located
between Beulah and Honor, just minutes from Pinecroft. The adjacent Narrow Gauge Farms Golf Community offers affordable single family wooded building sites with stunning
views of the course and surrounding countryside.
Pinecroft
The photos in this review are of the Pinecroft Course. There are 55 soft sand bunkers strategically located along this beautiful design, with water coming into play on just 2 holes.
The hilly terrain provides for many elevated tee areas and downhill approaches, along with some wonderful lake views. Though beautifully tree-lined, this course features ample
fairways with generally wide landing zones off the tee. Driver may not always be the club of choice though - players will have to think and maneuver their way about this course.
Several challenging doglegs demand precise placement off the tee. The green complexes are small to medium is size, and with the frequent elevation changes golfers will be
challenged to make the proper iron selection on the approach shots.
There are 3 sets of tee areas that play to distances and slopes measuring 6447 yards/130 slope, 5939 yards/120 slope and 4975 yards with a slope of 119 from the forward tees.
As the slope ratings indicate, those playing from the tips will encounter a challenging round, while golfers choosing the white or red tee areas can enjoy an interesting yet playable
experience
A round at Champions Hill and Pinecroft are highly recommended by twoguyswhogolf. The convenience of location means that golfers can play both courses the dame day - and
the distinctiveness of the designs means that players will enjoy two very different experiences. There are several accommodations options for out of town visitors. For more info
