Manitou Passage Golf Club (231) 228-6000
Michigan golf course review
Manitou Passage Golf Club in Cedar, Michigan is one of the premier golf courses in the state. In 2009 this course underwent some renovations ( it was formerly Kings Challenge)
by The Arnold Palmer Design Company of Orlando, Florida and Peridian International of Newport Beach, California. The current management team is led by the owner of The Homestead who has a lifetime of experience with resort development and operations. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, the area that viewers of ABC's Good
Morning America chose as the "Most Beautiful Place in America" is just minutes away!
The layout is designed along an extremely rolling terrain with sculpted, terraced tee areas, tree lined fairways and numerous elevated tee areas. The views are often spectacular.
There is a nice variety of green complexes, from small and relatively flat to large and undulating. Sand bunkering is a bit understated but strategic, with 37 traps situated near the
landing zones off the tee or greenside. Water hazards come into play on 4 holes.
There are 5 sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 6668 yards/133 slope, 6257 yards/129 slope, 5824 yards/123 slope, 5214 yards/109 slope for men and
120 for women, and 4701 yards with a slope of 112 for ladies hitting from the forward tees. Sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green and 100, 150 and 200 yard
markers are present on all par fours and fives. Color coded flags indicate the day's front, middle or back hole locations.
The clubhouse includes a pro shop and a nice restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Banquet outing facilities are on property and there is a large practice green plus a
hitting net - but no range. The nearby Homestead offers stay and play packages, with the convenience of staying right on one of Lake Michigan's most scenic shorelines!
Golfers traveling to the Traverse City area can consider this a "must play". Expect a serene golf experience along a finely conditioned course with plenty of challenges. For more
