Michigan Golf Course Review
Gauss's Green Valley Golf Course, located in Jackson, is a 6035 yard par 70 regulation course. The course was designed in 1960 by Lloyd Gauss and is now under the
management of Graydon Gauss. This layout features all the hallmarks of Michigan where visitors will enjoy beautiful scenery and a fun, but challenging round of golf.
Sand features come into play frequently near the landing zones or greenside, with 41 bunkers situated about the layout. Hazards in the form of water are understated affecting tee
shots or approaches on only 3 holes. Most par fours and fives are pretty straight forward with the exception of a few dog-legs - the short 260 yard par four 8th in particular, which
actually turns on a 90 degree angle. The medium sized putting surfaces are easily approachable with a lack of mounding to protect them.
Three sets of tee boxes play to distances measuring 6035 yards from the back (blue) tees, 5635 from the middle (white) tees, and 5000 from the front (red) tees. The back nine
plays considerably longer than the front which features three par 3's and only one par 5. The course has not been rated so the slopes and ratings are not available at this time.
The yardage marking system consists of sprinkler heads on the fairways which are measured to the greens center as well as 150 yard stakes, which are posted on all par fours
and fives. Pin placement information is not available for golfers so it is best to go for the center of the putting surface.
The practice facilities are comprehensive and include a targeted grass range, putting green, and short game area with a sand bunker. The clubhouse includes a pro shop plus
grill open daily for lunch. For outings and banquets there is space indoors for 70 people and an area outside the clubhouse for even more.
