GAYLORD COUNTRY CLUB ( 231-546-3376)
Michigan Golf Course Review
Gaylord Country Club - located off M-32 just 5 miles west of the I-75 freeway, is a traditional style championship course that boasts private treatment at a public price. With rates
including cart topping out at just $55 prime time in 2006, we agree that this is one of the best values in the Gaylord area. Players will encounter wonderful conditioning and friendly
employees that help to make this a pleasant experience, on a layout that features a great variety of golf holes.
The design features a blend of open and tightly tree lined holes, some playing fairly flat while others roll up and down over an undulating terrain. There are numerous doglegs that
bend in either direction, plus strategic water hazards and bunkers that make golfers think before they select the proper club. There is ample opportunity to utilize the driver, but lay
-ups to proper landing zones are also necessary on some holes.
Three sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes that measure in distance and slope 6452 yards/123, 6092 yards/118 and 5490 yards with a slope of 122 for ladies playing
from the forward sets. As the slope ratings indicate, this is a player friendly design - a nice opening course and a confidence builder for those on a Gaylord golf trip. Water comes
into play on 5 holes and there are 30 sand bunkers located along the landing zones of the rye fairways or situated greenside near the medium sized, mildly undulating putting surfaces.
Clubhouse facilities include a pro shop and restaurant/lounge open daily for lunch and on Saturdays for dinner, which also services outings and functions that can accommodate
a full golf outing of 144. There is a nice targeted grass range, putting green and short game are with sand bunker. On course yardages are marked on blocks at 100 and 200
yards and 150 yard stakes are located along the sides of the fairways on all par fours and fives. Small markers on the flagsticks indicate front, middle and back pin placements.
It is obvious that the employees enjoy working here, and it shows in the quality environment that is on display at the Gaylord Country Club. This is a course that can be
appreciated by all levels of players, and is especially kind to beginners, ladies, and families. It is also a local favorite. For more information, visit our page for the Gaylord CC on
