FIELDSTONE GOLF CLUB (248-370-9354)
Michigan Golf Course Review
Fieldstone Golf Club is an Arthur Hills designed, city of Auburn Hills municipal course that opened in 1998, and has been heralded as one of the top 3 courses in Oakland
County. A wide variety of topography and terrain including wind-swept meadows, wetlands and streams, and mature wooded corridors provide challenge and an aesthetic quality
to Fieldstone's 80 acres. Outstanding conditioning and sophisticated practice facilities (a huge grass range and practice greens) give one the feel of playing a private club. The
clubhouse opened in 2004, and features a pro shop, locker rooms with showers, outdoor patio, plus the beautiful Vista Grill.
Fieldstone has been involved annually with the Michigan Publinx Championship, Michigan Amateur, Women's Metropolitan Golf Association and PGA Junior Events, and during
the time that the PGA Buick Open was played, Fieldstone had served as the Buick Open Qualifier. This sporty, diverse design appeals to golfers of all levels of play, with a slope
rating ranging from 110 to 144. Landing areas off the tee are well defined and spacious enough to give every golfer a chance, while also providing an exciting round and a
formidable challenge. Be sure to make use of their expansive grass range and putting greens (which are very quick) before you begin play.
This Arthur Hills design offers 7 variations of tee areas, making it possible for players of all skill levels to enjoy a round. The tips play to 6978 yards with course and slope ratings
of 144/74.4. The middle tees measure 6096/132 and the forward tees play to 4916 yards with a course rating of 110 for men and 121 for women. Combined tee boxes (black/gold,
gold/white and white/red) provide alternative options.
There are approximately 27 soft sand bunkers situated along the rolling fairways or greenside, and water comes into play in some shape or form on 9 holes. The green
complexes vary in size and shape, with mildly undulating and quick rolling putting surfaces.
Playing Fieldstone was a pleasure. The service was extremely friendly. There is a wonderful mix of short and long par fours, allowing you to use every club in your bag. It is a course that demands thoughtful strategy on some holes, but also affords the opportunity to let loose with one's driver. With the front tees under 5000 and the tips measuring
around 7000, it is fair and challenging to all levels of golfers. The fairways are well marked with plaques and sprinkler heads and GPS is available on all carts. Google directions,
as the property is much more easily accessible off of I-75 (near Great Lakes Crossing) than it was in the past.
