Michigan Golf Course Review
Carrington Golf Club, located off South Custer (M-50) in Monroe, is a 6873 yard par 72 championship golf course. The goal at this facility is to offer the best in golf at affordable
rates and service by courteous employees. This Brian Huntley designed layout opened in 1998 and conditions are well kept by Superintendent Ted Pasko III and staff.
The clubhouse includes a pro shop, the River's Edge at Carrington - a full menu restaurant, and outing/ banquet facilities. Practice facilities feature a grass range, putting green,
and a short game area with a bunker for chipping and sand practice. The scorecards have small diagrams of each hole with valuable information and the depth of each green.
On course there are a total of 59 sand bunkers and 9 holes with water in play, sometimes more than once. Most of the mounding is off the sides of the fairways and near the
greens, rewarding even lies to golfers with accurate tee shots. Second shots and approaches on the par fours and fives tend to be guarded a little tighter by trees, bunkers and
water hazards. The medium sized putting surfaces slope slightly from back to front in most cases and are pretty well protected by mounding and bunkers.
The fairways are well marked with yardages measured to the greens center on sprinkler heads and posts from 150 yards out on all par fours and fives. Along with the hole
diagrams mentioned in the 2nd paragraph, scorecards also include daily pin placement info with six possible positions. Scoring well on this challenging layout may depend on a
low number of putts so golfers should pay close attention to the pin position on each hole.
Four sets of tee boxes at Carrington play to distances and slopes measuring 6873 yards/137 slope, 6408 yards/128 slope, 5791 yards/115 slope, and 5067 yards and a slope of
114 for the ladies' playing from the front tees. As the slope ratings indicate, golfers who choose to play from the two back tees, and top women players from the whites, will be
challenged. High handicappers and average players can enjoy a relaxing round if they choose to play from the front tees (white for men and green for woman and beginners).
