Bay Harbor Golf Club Review (27 holes)
All photos in this review are of Bay Harbor Golf Club. The first five are of the Preserve, with the second group featuring images of the Quarry, and the last five pictures are of the
Links nine.
The Inn at Bay Harbor is a true luxury resort featuring a variety of accommodations including standard rooms and comfortably appointed suites. There is a spa plus exercise room
(with the latest cardio equipment), and an outdoor pool area with hot tub. Croquet, sand volleyball and outdoor chess/checker facilities are situated near the pool area. Fine and
casual dining plus meeting and conference rooms are also available. The hotel is located steps from shimmering Lake Michigan, with its own private beach. For more info on the
Inn, visit our page for the resort with direct link to the BOYNE Golf website by clicking here.
The clubhouse at Bay Harbor Golf Club features a beautifully stocked pro shop, locker rooms with showers for men and women, a restaurant/lounge, plus meeting and banquet
rooms. Practice facilities include a targeted grass range stocked with complimentary balls, a short game area with sand bunker, plus putting greens near the pro shop and also near the range.
On course, the marking system includes yardage blocks at 100, 150 and 200 yards with sprinkler heads measured to the green on all par fours and fives. All tee boxes have
posted yardages and small markers on the flagsticks indicate the days' front, middle and back pin placements. The new fleet of carts are Bay Harbor are fitted with ball and club
washers, and are conveniently compartmentalized.
The Preserve is spectacular nine featuring contoured fairways over a rolling, tree lined terrain with gentle elevation changes and extensive mounding near the landing zones and
also greenside. The sloping mounds create some challenging green complexes which require accurate approaches. A full array of short game shots including low running
pitches and high flop shots are necessary to score well here.. There are several doglegs and a few holes have natural marshlands in play. The most gorgeous scene however is
from the side of the green looking out towards Lake Michigan on the par three 9th. The Preserve also has six sets of tees playing to 3352, 3115, 2765, 2344, and 1968 yards.
Our review continued with The Quarry nine arguably the most spectacular nine-hole layout in Michigan. Beginning with the third hole, this layout plays over some very unique
terrain, as it winds around a quarry – presenting golfers with carries over and around ravines, gullies, ponds and marsh lands. The contoured fairways and greens are well
bunkered, and though there is often sufficient landing areas off the tees, golfers will be challenged to make accurate approach shots. In fact, the iron shot to reach the green on
the difficult par four 5th requires a degree of accuracy that will make even the best golfers nervous. Number 7 feeds towards Lake Michigan and the par three 8th has the lake
forming one of the most dramatic backdrops in Michigan golf. The Five sets of tees measure 3320, 3098, 2954, 2514, and 2072 yards.
We did not have the opportunity to play The Links nine, which measures 3404, 3225, 3023, 2661, and 2247 yards. This course is designed over a hilly terrain with spectacular
views of the Lake. Like the other two nines, the rough can be quite challenging, making it important for golfers to find the fairways and reach the greens in regulation.
Bay Harbor Golf Club is home to some of the most incredible golf real estate in the Midwest, and is certainly the crown jewel of the BOYNE Golf properties. If you have an
opportunity to play here - DO IT!!! This is a highly recommended golf experience. For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
