Sylvan Glen Golf Course on Rochester Road in Troy is a family friendly facility that attracts over 50,000 patrons
per year, and has been in existence since 1922. The course is home to approximately 34 leagues and services
50 or more golf outings each season. Both the Troy and Athens High schools call Sylvan Glen home for their golf schedules.
Four sets of tees afford all levels of players an opportunity to test their skills - with the tee boxes measuring in
distance and slope 6565 yards/119 slope, 6036 yards/117 slope, 5479 yards/116 slope and 4910 yards with a
slope rating of 119 for ladies hitting from the forward tees. The course is well marked with yardage stakes and
blocks posted on the fairways of all par fours and fives at 100, 150 and 200 yards. All par threes have posted yardages, and small markers on the flags indicate front, middle and back pin placements.
The par 70 layout features tree lined but generous fairways, with some elevation changes on the back side.
Bunkering is understated with less that 2 dozen on property, and water comes into play on 11 holes. Most water
hazards are in the form of a creek that intersects the landscape, often situated just beyond the tee areas or
before the slightly raised green complexes. The putting surfaces are of varying shapes and sizes, and also have a good variety of slopes and undulations.
The layout is walker friendly, with relatively short distances from green to tee. Prime rates in 2006 topped out
between $27/$32 walking and $42/$47 with cart, making this one of the areas better golf values. Senior, Junior and resident rates are in effect 7 days a week, all season long.
Golfers will encounter bent grass fairways, tees and greens, and facilities include a pro shop and practice green
for putting and chipping - no range on property. Camp Ticonderoga - with a comfortable hunting lodge interior, is
