GULL LAKE VIEW STONEHEDGE GOLF CLUB - SOUTH COURSE
Michigan Golf Course Review
Gull Lake View Resort is located in the beautiful lake region of Southwest Michigan, and offers 6 championship golf courses that are rated 4-1/2 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play
. On-site accommodations can house up to 256 guests and banquet/meeting facilities can comfortably take care of groups of up to 300 guests. Altogether there are four
clubhouses, 2 driving ranges and nine practice greens, along with dining options at each of the 4 clubhouses. This is a wonderful set of courses, and an experience at the resort
on one of their stay and play packages is a deal that can't go wrong. For more info on the resort and packages, visit our page for Gull Lake View Resort, with direct link to their
website by clicking here.
Each of the six courses provides the same on-course marking system... color coded flags indicate front, middle and back hole locations, 150 yard stakes are visible on the
fairways of par fours and fives, yardage blocks are measured to the center of the green at 100, 150 and 200 yards, and the tee boxes on all par threes also are marked. Each
course is wonderfully maintained from tee to green, providing outstanding conditioning on all playing surfaces.
STONEHEDGE NORTH AND SOUTH INFO
The Stonehedge courses are located just 3 miles down the road from the resort property, and the main practice facility for the complex is located adjacent. There is a spacious
targeted range, plus putting/chipping greens for each course. The clubhouse services both courses, and features a snack area/lounge with hot and cold sandwiches and deli
items. There also is an outdoor patio that provides outstanding golf course views. There are locker rooms for men and women (no showers), and a well stocked pro shop
includes attire and golf accessories.
The South Course at Stonehedge was our favorite layout of the Gull Lake View property - and also has been awarded with 4-1/2 stars out of five by Golf Digest Places to Play. A
dramatic, rolling, wooded terrain forms the topography for what has developed into one of the most popular courses in the Great Lakes area. Landscaping and top-notch
conditioning also make this experience special. There are 39 sand bunkers - strategically placed greenside and near the landing zones, and interestingly enough - there are no water hazards.
Most fairways are tree lined and some of them are quite narrow, demanding distance and accuracy off the tee. There are some challenging doglegs and significant elevation
changes, with approaches that require careful club selection to hit the correct distances to raised or depressed green complexes. The putting surfaces are large in size and
medium in difficulty with mild undulations, and are generally well protected by bunkers. This layout is in a secluded setting, affording all levels of players a serene golf experience.
Golfers can choose from four sets that play to distances and slopes measuring 6656 yards/133 slope, 6234 yards/130 slope, 5775 yards/124 slope and 5191 yards with a slope
of 120 at the forward tees.
