Review 5/22/05
General information
Gull Lake View Resort is located in the beautiful lake region of Southwest Michigan, and offers 5 championship
golf courses that are rated from 4 to 4-1/2 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play. On-site accommodations can
house up to 256 guests and banquet/meeting facilities can comfortably take care of groups of up to 300 guests.
Altogether there are three clubhouses, 2 driving ranges and nine practice greens, along with dining options at
each of the 3 clubhouses. This is a wonderful set of courses, and an experience at the resort on one of their stay
and play packages is a deal that can't go wrong. For more info on the resort and packages, visit our page for Gull Lake View Resort, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
Each of the five courses provides the same on-course marking system...color coded flags indicate front, middle
and back hole locations, 150 yard stakes are visible on the fairways of par fours and fives, yardage blocks are
measured to the center of the green at 100, 150 and 200 yards, and the tee boxes on all par threes also are
marked. Each course is wonderfully maintained from tee to green, providing outstanding conditioning on all playing surfaces.
STONEHEDGE NORTH AND SOUTH INFO
The Stonehedge courses are located just 3 miles down the road from the resort property, and the main practice
facility for the complex is located adjacent. There is a spacious targeted range, plus putting/chipping greens for
each course. The clubhouse services both courses, and features a snack area/lounge with hot and cold
sandwiches and deli items. There also is an outdoor patio that provides outstanding golf course views. There
are locker rooms for men and women (no showers), and a well stocked pro shop includes attire and golf accessories.
STONEHEDGE NORTH
The North Course at Stonehedge is the newest of the layouts at Gull Lake View, as it opened in 1995 with a
balanced resume of six par threes, six par fours and six par fives. This course is know for its forested topography
, elevation changes and huge putting surfaces. There is a separate putting green on property, and the cart paths
provide yardage indicators (white discs) posted at 200, 150 and 100 yards. Four sets of tees play to distances
and slopes measuring 6673 yards/127 slope, 6210 yards/124 slope, 5785 yards/117 slope and 5067 yards with a slope of 5067 on the forward tees.
The greens here a quite large and mildly rolling, with plentiful room for recoveries from slighty off-line approaches
. Some are protected by sand traps, others are not. Holes one and two present fairy level playing surfaces
before the course begins to take on more of a rolling topography. The back side is undulating in comparison,
and like the South Course, presents some blind tee shots off the tee There is a good mix of holes providing open
and tight, tree lined landing zones. Like its sister course, Stonehedge North was rated 4 stars by Golf Digest
Places to Play. For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
