REDDEMAN FARMS GOLF CLUB (734-475-3020)
Michigan Golf Course Review - 5/13/05
Reddeman Farms is Chelsea is a 3-1/2 star (Golf Digest Places to Play) Bob Louhouse/Howard Smith design
that was built in 1991. The course, sculpted from land which originally served as a dairy farm, is fashioned in a
secluded setting away from the hustle and bustle of Ann Arbor, and is nearly void of residential development.
Remnants of the past are visible in the form of a barn and silo, as the layout winds around these antique structures.
The terrain here is mildly rolling, with relatively open fairways playing to medium sized greens that are undulating
in nature. Golfers of all skill levels will find the course playable, as there is often plentiful landing room off the tee -
and the green complexes are approachable with bunkering that is understated (31 sand traps in total). Water
does come into play in some shape or form on 13 of the holes - with most on the perimeter, but a few carries are necessary (especially on holes 9 and 18 - pictured below).
There are four sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring 6525 yards/122 slope, 6228 yards/120
slope, 5665 yards/112 slope for men and 127 for women, and 5014 slope with a 120 rating for the ladies.
Though not an overly long course, players from the tips will find 5 par fours of 400 yards plus in length. The four
par threes and four par fives are relatively short and are quite score-able. On course golfers will find sprinkler
heads measured to the center of the green, and yardage markers posted on the cart paths and fairways at 100,
150 and 200 yards. There also is a 150 yard stake visible on par fours and fives. Hole diagram booklets are standard on each cart.
The green complexes at Reddeman Farms are medium to large in size with only mild undulations, but the slopes
generally run from back to front creating the need to keep the ball below the pin. Golfers will have to pay attention
to the color coded flags, which indicate front, middle or back pin placements. The layout provides a mix of open
and tree lined fairways, but most offer ample landing zones - avoid the water hazards and low scores are possible here.
The clubhouse is a beautiful structure that features a pro shop plus full service restaurant with lounge, and plenty
of comfortable seating inside and on the outdoor patio - which presents wonderful views of the golf course.
Ample banquet/outing facilities are available - and prices and details for wedding, luncheon, banquet or special
event packages are available on the Reddeman Farms website. The service, Amenities, friendly atmosphere
plus ideal secluded setting - just 8 miles west of Ann Arbor, make this place a favorite for outings and special
events. A practice range and putting green are on property. Packages are available through the Comfort Inn in
Chelsea. For more info on the course and property - visit our page for Reddeman Farms with direct link to their website by clicking here.
