MARYSVILLE GOLF CLUB (810-364-4653)
Michigan Golf Course Review 5/29/05 - updated April, 2008
Marysville Golf Club is a 3-1/2 star (Golf Digest Places to Play) championship layout located adjacent to the St.
Clair River, just south of Port Huron and 55 miles north of downtown Detroit. It is a nice course for seniors and
beginners, and there is enough variety in design to make for an interesting round for experienced players.
What's more, with rates that top out at around $35 including cart prime time in 2008, this is one of the state's better golfing values.
There are four sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring 6542 yards/120 slope, 6284 yards/118
slope, 5311 yards/117 slope for women and 111 slope for men. An alternate set of yellow tees plays to 5351
yards with a slope of 108, and is ideal for beginning, junior or senior players. On course, sprinkler heads are
measured to the center of the green, red, white and blue flags and yardage blocks are posted in the 100, 150
and 200 yard areas, and small markers on the flag sticks indicate front, middle and back hole locations.
A couple holes stand out - the par four 3rd and 11th, which are almost identical in design. Both begin with a tee
shot over a ravine, each doglegs to the right, and both holes feature a water hazard near the green that warrants
consideration on the approach. On number three, the pond is situated to the left about 50 yards out, and is
almost hidden from view on the fairway. On eleven, the pond rest to the right side, just short of the putting surface.
The greens at Marysville are medium in size and mild in undulation, and can be easily approached as bunkering
is minimal and most of the putting complexes are open in front. High arcing lob shots are usually not required,
making this course quite user-friendly. The terrain is quite level, except for a few holes when ravines and slopes
come into play. Most shots will be played from level lies. There are some interesting doglegs, including the
sequence of holes 11 (dogleg right), 12 (dogleg left around a lake) and 13 (dogleg right around a line of trees).
Water comes into play on 4 holes, and bunkering is understated with just 18 sand traps on the course. There is a
practice green on property (no driving range) and the clubhouse features a snack area with deli sandwiches
available (no alcohol). For more information, including directions to the course, visit our page for Marysville on our web catalog of courses to play in Michigan by clicking here.
