LYNX GOLF CLUB (269-686-5969)
Michigan Golf Course Review 7/14/05
News Update - July, 2008:
A brand new 5,600 square-foot clubhouse opened on June 30 and features a golf shop, dining with indoor and outdoor seating, beautiful views of the golf course and the Lynx Sports Bar and Grill that offers 8 large screen TV's and a full menu.
Though we did not have the time to play the Lynx, we were able to drive the course to take photos and to get a
feel of the terrain and design, which we found quite interesting. The Lynx is aptly described as Northern Michigan
golf without the drive. This layout traverses hilly terrain with some striking elevation changes. The opening hole
features a dramatic drop to the green on the approach, and the tee shot on 10 plays to a fairway that rests far below. .
The property is situated along the majestic Kalamazoo River and is across the valley from the Bittersweet Ski
Resort. The mix of rolling terrain, water hazards (on at least 8 holes) and understated but effective bunkering (28
in total) create a layout that is challenging yet fun to play - and easy to photograph! There is a combination of tight tree lined fairways, along with those that provide ample landing areas.
The green complexes are raised but mostly open, presenting reasonable up and down opportunities and
recoveries from slightly off-line approaches. The bent grass fairways and putting surfaces provide good playing
conditions, affording golfers a fair chance to play to their handicap. Hitting it straight off the tee is vital however.
Four sets of tees play to distances and slopes measuring 6471 yards/137 slope, 6012 yards/134 slope, 5190
yards/112 slope and 4429 yards/113 slope for women. The course is women friendly from the forward sets - and quite tough even for experienced players from the tips.
Practice facilities include a grass range and putting/chipping green. On course yardages on sprinkler heads
provide measurements to the center of the green, and stakes are provided at 100, 150 and 200 yards. Color
coded flags indicate front, middle and back pin placements. The Lynx is fun and challenging round of golf - with
efficient and friendly service - a good value fort he area and an experience we recommend without reservation. For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
