HURON BREEZE GOLF CLUB (989-876-6868)
Michigan Golf Course Review 6/04/05
Huron Breeze - a four star golf facility (Golf Digest Places to Play) located just north of AuGres on US-23, is
simply put the best golf value in NE Michigan. The scenery and landscape features an attractive blend of
marshes, ponds, bunkers, hardwoods and pines - along an interesting track with rates including cart topping out at just $30 weekdays and $39 weekends in 2005!And walking is allowed at all times.
The clubhouse here features a pro shop plus restaurant/lounge with hot & cold sandwiches, beverages and
snacks on an extensive lunch menu. A separate room provides a comfortable atmosphere for outings and events
, and the view from the outdoor patio provides nice views of the 18th hole. There is also a spacious practice green and a grass range on property.
Golfers will encounter tree lined fairways, some of them with ample landing areas and others quite tight in nature.
With frequent water hazards also present - usually along the perimeter of fairways, accuracy off the tee is
essential to scoring well. The is a nice mix of open and well protected green complexes, with many of the
medium to large size putting surfaces featuring ridges and undulations. Bunkering is not overstated, with
upwards of 3 dozen in total scattered along this Bill Newcomb design, but placement is strategic, and these traps can be high lipped and penal in nature.
There are 4 sets of tees that play to yardages and slopes measuring 6806 yards/133 slope, 6037 yards/128
slope, 5466 yards and 5075 yards with a slope of 123 for women. On course yardage markers are present at
100, 150 and 200 yards in the form of color coded stakes, and sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the
green. Pin placement is indicated color coded flags for front, middle and back hole locations. The scorecards are helpful, with diagrams and locations of all the hazards of each hole.
The "Sunrise Side" is known for its great golf values, and Huron Breeze leads the way with their pricing structure,
wonderful layout, good conditioning and wonderful service. The property is located about 4-1/2 miles north of
AuGres - look for the white fence on the left side of 23. Initially, golfers may be intimidated as the first three holes
are quite tight. Generally speaking however, this is a secluded layout that can be enjoyed by all levels of players. For more info, visit our page for Huron breeze, with a direct link to their website by clicking here
