GULL LAKE VIEW GOLF CLUB - Stoatin Brae (269-731-4149)
Michigan Golf Course Review
Gull Lake View Resort is located in the beautiful lake region of Southwest Michigan, and offers 6 championship golf courses that are rated 4-1/2 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play
. On-site accommodations can house up to 256 guests and banquet/meeting facilities can comfortably take care of groups of up to 300 guests. Altogether there are four
clubhouses, 2 driving ranges and nine practice greens, along with dining options at each of the 4 clubhouses. This is a wonderful set of courses, and an experience at the resort
on one of their stay and play packages is a deal that can't go wrong. For more info on the resort and packages, visit our page for Gull Lake View Resort, with direct link to their
website by clicking here.
Each of the six courses provides the same on-course marking system... color coded flags indicate front, middle and back hole locations, 150 yard stakes are visible on the
fairways of par fours and fives, yardage blocks are measured to the center of the green at 100, 150 and 200 yards, and the tee boxes on all par threes also are marked. Each
course is wonderfully maintained from tee to green, providing outstanding conditioning on all playing surfaces.
The Stoatin Brae Course opened opened in May 2017. The course is located a few miles off of the resort property, and is pretty well secluded from residences and businesses.
There is a practice green for putting and chipping on property, and plans for a driving range are set for mid summer 2017. The clubhouse features a well stocked pro shop plus
restaurant/lounge with a beautiful patio, that serves breakfast and lunch 7 days a week, with dinners on Wednesday through Sunday all season long.
"One of nine most eagerly awaited new golf courses of 2017" – Forbes Magazine, Stoatin Brae is a true links style golf course, with wide sloping fairways, numerous fairway and
greenside bunkers, and tall wild grasses surrounding the manicured playing surfaces. This Championship design was built on one of the highest spots in Kalamazoo County,
with amazing views from anywhere on the course. The designers were careful to offer a challenge for the avid golfer, yet make the course playable for youth and beginners. Four
sets of tee boxes ranging from 4,886 to 6667 yards provide a fair challenge for any skill level
The greens and fairways are well bunkered, but generally provide ample landing zones for those who are hitting straight. In total there are 50 bunkers, but no water hazards to
avoid on this track. Hole to hole, there is a good mix of hilly terrain and flat surfaces on the fairways and near the greens. Our visit to this course took place the second weekend it
was open for play, and it was fairly raw. We anticipate our next visit, and we are certain it will blossom into one of the most beautiful courses in the area, and we highly recommend
it for all levels of players.
