GRANDVIEW GOLF CLUB
Michigan Golf Course Review - July, 2006
Grandview Golf Club in Kalkaska is 4-star rated course (Golf Digest Places to Play) featuring 240 acres of rolling terrain lined with mature oak, maple, ash and birch trees. Spectacular views and affordable golf are
Grandview's claim to fame, and players will also be impressed by the significant elevation changes and great variety in hole designs.
The par three fifth and seventh are especially beautiful, with tee boxes situated on hilltops high above the sloping
green complexes. These well conditioned putting surfaces are mild in undulation, but can be quite severely
sloped, mostly from back to front. Small markers on each flagstick indicate front, middle or back hole locations -
valuable information on this course as many greens require approaches the come to rest below the hole.
There are 100 and 200 yard markers located on the fairways of all par fours and fives, and 150 yard stakes are
situated on both sides. With a good number of green complexes located uphill or downhill, accurate club
selection is necessary to score well here. Most of the holes are tree lined, and quite a few demand well aimed
tee shots to narrow fairways. There are just 24 sand bunkers, but each is strategically located to challenge the
accuracy of approaches or tee shots. Water comes into play on the par four 8th and on the initial two holes of the
back nine. The mounding and swales located greenside create some of the toughest obstacles to par on this layout.
Three sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes measuring 6653 yards/133 slope, 6274 yards/129 slope
and 5007 yards with a slope of 122 from the forward sets. On property is a grass range and practice green, plus
a clubhouse with restaurant/lounge, and banquet/outing/special event facilities that can accommodate up to 150 guests.
Located just 30 miles west of Traverse City, Grandview is one of the best golf values in Northwest Michigan.
Wonderful service, a well kept environment and a challenging round of golf await those that visit. With the great
variety of trees, this also is a wonderful place to play during the fall season. Peak rates including cart topped out
at just $50 per player in 2007! For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
