CONCORD HILLS GOLF CLUB (517-524-8337)
Michigan Golf Course Review 7/13/05
Concord Hills Golf Club in Concord, about 10 minutes off I-94 and west of Jackson is a William Newcomb
championship design that has earned 3-1/2 stars from Golf Digest Places to Play. The course is situated along
a varied topography with some significant elevation changes from tee to green. The beginning holes of each
nine play along a level terrain before elevated tees and raised green complexes come into play. Throughout, the
rye/bluegrass fairways are defined by mature pines, spruce and hardwoods, creating a mix of tight and fairly wide fairways.
Three sets of tees play to distances and slopes measuring 6422 yards/125 slope, 6116 yards/122 slope and
5104 from the forward sets with a 125 slope for the ladies. On property is a grass range and putting/chipping
green. The clubhouse includes a small pro shop plus snack area with pizza, hot and cold sandwiches, plus a full
bar menu. The also are facilities for meetings and outings, with the outdoor patio available.
Other than a few tight doglegs and the fact that golfers will have to adjust their club selection for some of the uphill
and downhill approaches, this is a very player friendly layout. Many of the green complexes are open in front,
allowing for run on shots and reasonable recoveries. With a few exceptions, these bentgrass putting surfaces
are only slightly raised, with understated mounding and sparse bunkering. There are just 6 sand traps on the
course - all on the front side, and water comes into play in the shape of a lake or a traversing creek on 8 holes. Keep it out of the trees and low scores can be had here!
On course 150 yard stakes are visible on par fours and fives, yardage blocks are posted at 100, 150 and 200
yards, and some sprinkler heads have measurements to the center of the green. Small markers on the flagsticks
indicate front, middle or back pin placements. This is a good value golf course, with friendly people and efficient
service. For more info, visit our page for Concord Hills, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
