ANGELS CROSSING GOLF CLUB (269)649-2700
Michigan Golf Course Review 6/4/07
Angels Crossing Golf Club is a W. Bruce Mathews III designed 18 hole, par 72, 7169 yard golf course in
Vicksburg, just south of Kalamazoo. The topography features over 700 acres of prairie land with meadows,
woods and wet lands. This peaceful property is mostly secluded from residential and commercial development with only five homes - all built along the south side of the 15th hole.
On property there is a full practice facility including a targeted grass driving range, large putting green, and a
short game area with sand bunker. Fred Reeder is the PGA Director of Golf and Bob Michael is the PGA
Professional. The Fred Reeder Golf Academy is on site and is available to all levels of golfers. In the spring of
2008 a new clubhouse will be opening with all the amenities of a premier golf facility. Until then, there is a pro
shop with restrooms and snacks available on property. Catering is provided on course by Craftsman Chophouse.
Five sets of tees play to the distances and slopes of 7169 yards/135 slope from the back red tees, 6749
yards/127 slope from the blacks, 6232 yards/ 118 slope for men, and 131 slope for woman from the greens,
5558 yards/110 slope for men, and 121 for women from the whites, and 4845 yards with a 113 slope from the ladies hitting from the forward tees.
Distances are well marked on fairways with 150 yard stakes and yardage plates at 100, 150 and 200 yards to
the center of the greens. Daily pin placement sheets are found in each cart with six possible hole locations. In
total there are 76 sand bunkers situated greenside and near the landing zones, water plays on 2 holes, and there are plenty of marshy hazards to avoid.
This is a beautiful layout with rolling hills and mounded terrain causing uneven lies and difficult approaches from
the fairways and rough. From the tees there are often wide landing zones, making this a fair and enjoyable
experience for all levels of players. Miss the fairways however, and recoveries are difficult as the prairie grass
rough is thick and challenging to play out of. Some holes feature deep grass bunkers that prove to be more
difficult to recover from than the deep sand bunkers. The large sloping, elevated putting complexes have plentiful greenside mounding, creating the need for accurate approach shots.
We highly recommend a round here! Rates are very reasonable. For more info on the golf course, visit our page for the property with direct link to their website by clicking here.
